"Taibbi: It's Official - 'Russiagate' Is This Generation's WMD"

"The WMD mess had massive real-world negative impact, leading to over a hundred thousand deaths and trillions in lost taxpayer dollars. Unless Russiagate leads to a nuclear conflict, we’re unlikely to ever see that level of consequence. (...) As a purely journalistic failure, however, WMD was a pimple compared to Russiagate. The sheer scale of the errors and exaggerations this time around dwarfs the last mess. Worse, it’s led to most journalists accepting a radical change in mission. We’ve become sides-choosers, obliterating the concept of the press as an independent institution whose primary role is sorting fact and fiction. We had the sense to eventually look inward a little in the WMD affair, which is the only reason we escaped that episode with any audience left. Is the press even capable of that kind of self-awareness now? WMD damaged our reputation. If we don’t turn things around, this story will destroy it."

"John Bolton Openly Admits He Wants Maduro Out, American Oil Companies In"

"Bolton told host Trish Regan: 'It will make a big difference to the United States economically if we could have American oil companies invest in and produce the oil capabilities in Venezuela.' (...) After essentially admitting US policy in Venezuela is focused on American oil companies taking over the economically collapsed socialist country's vast untapped oil reserves, he concluded by expressing hope that 'we can make this come out the right way.' Meanwhile in another Fox appearance last week, Bolton echoed a similar theme, though less explicit, saying regime change was the US end goal in Venezuela as a 'potential major step forward' for US 'business' advancement in the region."

"America's 'Gift' To The World: Visualizing 70 Years Of US Arms Exports"

"'This policy seeks to mobilize the full resources of the United States government behind arms transfers that are in the U.S. national and economic security interest,' a White House official said, responding to a request for comment on the story. 'We recognize that arms transfers may have important human rights consequences,' the official said. 'Nothing in this policy changes existing legal or regulatory requirements in this regard.' It will probably not come as a surprise to anyone that the main architects of the new policy has been economist Peter Navarro, a China trade skeptic ascendant in Trump’s inner circle. His effort to boost arms exports has drawn little resistance within the White House, Reuters officials said."

"Ben Rhodes Admits Obama Armed Jihadists In Syria In Bombshell Interview"

"(...) mainstream media has been content to float the falsehood that President Obama's legacy is that he 'stayed out' of Syria, instead merely approving some negligible level of aid to so-called 'moderate' rebels who were fighting both Assad and (supposedly) the Islamic State. Rhodes has himself in prior interviews attempted to portray Obama as wisely staying 'on the sidelines' in Syria. But as we've pointed out many times over the years, this narrative ignores and seeks to whitewash possibly the largest CIA covert program in history, started by Obama, which armed and funded a jihadist insurgency bent of overthrowing Assad to the tune of $1 billion a year (one-fifteenth of the CIA’s publicly known budget according to leaked Edward Snowden documents revealed by the Washington Post)."

"WikiLeaks Publishes CIA Hacking Tool Designed To 'Impersonate' Russia's Kaspersky Lab"

"(...) according to a new revelation from WikiLeaks this morning, any perceived 'national security risk' from Kaspersky could have resulted from the fact that the CIA specifically designed hacking software, code-named 'Hive', which intentionally 'impersonated' the Russian cyber security firm so that 'if the target organization looks at the network traffic coming out of its network, it is likely to misattribute the CIA exfiltration of data to uninvolved entities whose identities have been impersonated.' (...) the company's management has maintained that it has been 'caught in the middle of a geopolitical fight' and is being 'treated unfairly even though the company has never helped, nor will help, any government in the world with its cyberespionage or offensive cyber efforts' ... this new WikiLeaks revelation would seemingly lend some credence to Kaspersky's conclusion."

"Former UK Ambassador Blasts 'CIA's Blatant Lies', Shows 'A Little Simple Logic Destroys Their Claims'"

"As Julian Assange has made crystal clear, the leaks did not come from the Russians. As I have explained countless times, they are not hacks, they are insider leaks – there is a major difference between the two. (...) The continued ability of the mainstream media to claim the leaks lost Clinton the election because of 'Russia', while still never acknowledging the truths the leaks reveal, is Kafkaesque."

"The Spread Of ISIS (In 1 Disturbing 'The West Is Losing' Animation)"

"After explosive expansion in 2013-2014, now it seems that when any territory is taken back from the Islamic State they just expand elsewhere. Also of interest is just how little ground has been taken back from ISIS even after almost a year and a half of coalition combat operations against it. On the other hand, it must be noted that some of the wide areas shown on the map that ISIS supposedly controls is just empty desert, and the same can be said for much of the non-ISIS controlled areas highlighted in purple."

"Ron Paul: 'Interventionism Kills' Post-Coup Ukraine One Year Later"

"What if John McCain had stayed home and worried about his constituents in Arizona instead of non-constituents 6,000 miles away? What if the other US and EU politicians had done the same? What if Victoria Nuland and US Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt had focused on actual diplomacy instead of regime change? If they had done so, there is a good chance many if not all of those who have been killed in the violence would still be alive today. Interventionism kills."

"Putin Kills 'South Stream' Pipeline, Will Build New Massive Pipeline To Turkey Instead"

"In a joint press conference between Putin and Turkish leader Erdogan, the Russian said that the supply of Russian gas to Turkey will be raised by 3 billion cubic meters via the already operating Blue Stream pipeline, Last year, 13.7 bcm of gas was supplied to Turkeyvia Blue Stream, according to Reuters. And another fringe benefit of becoming a preferred Russian ally: Moscow will reduce the gas price for Turkish customers by 6 percent from January 1, 2015, Putin said. Later, Novak said the discount could reach 15 percent, subject to negotiations. Sorry Ukraine. (...) Bulgaria should now expect its gas costs to boldly go where Ukrainian energy prices have so boldly gone before. As for Turkey, the country that bridges Europe with Asia is merely the latest expansion of Putin's anti-dollar alliance: 'TURKEY, RUSSIA AGREE TO USE LOCAL CURRENCIES IN TRADE: TRT' Or, as Obama would put it, Russia just got even more 'isolated.'"
