Inhalt

Input: Events between 1941 and 1944
This input will present the current state of research on Babyn Jar. Many issues have not yet been conclusively resolved: Who were the victims and perpetrators, how did the population of Kiev respond? What “blind spots” still exist, and what are the challenges with respect to research on Babyn Jar?
Karel Berkhoff, NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Amsterdam

Input: Struggles with memory after the end of the war<absatz/> For a long time, the wider public remained largely unaware of the massacre of Babyn Jar. But how was the specific place of Babyn Jar dealt with directly after the war? How was the issue debated during Soviet times? When were Jews mentioned as a group of victims? And how has Babyn Jar been dealt with since independence?
Vladyslav Hrynevich, Department of Jewish History and Culture, Institute of History of Ukraine, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kiyv

Panel: Initiatives for Babyn Jar as a place of remembrance
In recent years, numerous memorials have been erected at Babyn Jar to commemorate different groups of victims. At the same time, a central place of commemoration for the victims of mass crime is still missing. This panel will present three initiatives for a central memorial site at Babyn Jar.
Yana Barinova, Babi Yar Holocaust Memorial Center
Borys Glazunov, National Historical Memorial Preserve "Babyn Yar"
Alti Rodal, Ukrainian Jewish Encounte
