The purpose of the workshop is to develop principles for Citizenship Education (CE) for the projects of the members of the focus group from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine, to get an overview about approaches and methods in CE, to try some methods out and to develop the EENCE (Eastern European Network for Citizenship Education).

Workshop "Citizenship Education in Eastern Europe"
23-27 November 2015, Berlin, Germany

The first workshop "Citizenship Education in Eastern Europe" took place in November 2015 in Berlin, Germany. 26 participants from seven countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine) discussed problems and challenges in the field of citizenship education, especially in Eastern Europe, and exchanged ideas and experiences. They also presented their projects, organizations and programs in which they are currently involved.

In smaller working groups they focused on current problems and specific aspects of civic education in their respective countries in order to develop possible solutions and recommendations for the future.

Furthermore, the participants were invited to find out more about the situation of citizenship education in Germany. They visited several organizations in Berlin that are practically engaged in this topic. As a result of five fruitful days the group has decided to continue their work in 2016 with the aim to build up a new NECE focus group. The meeting will be held in one of the Eastern Europe countries, probably in April/May or in summer 2016.
