With around 3.600 teachers, 25.000 students and 464 schools in 15 countries participating so far, aces has become one of the largest school networks in Central and South Eastern Europe. Its core is a periodic project contest and support scheme for international school projects, with a focus on citizenship education related topics such as e.g. participation, diversity, volunteering and conflict resolution. International meetings with delegations of the winning project schools provide a platform for additional exchange and further educational training and development. aces was founded in 2006 by ERSTE Foundation in cooperation with Interkulturelles Zentrum (Vienna, Austria) and in 2009, VČELÍ DOM (Bratislava, Slovak Republic) joined in the partnership; the initiative is also supported by the Ministries of Education from all 15 participating countries.
