Der Soziologe Gilbert Rozman vom Foreign Policy Research Institute ist der Überzeugung, dass sich die aktuellen politischen Konflikte in Asien nicht allein mit realistischen Theorieansätzen erklären ließen. Sowohl China als auch Japan betrieben eine identitätsbezogene Politik. "Without appreciating the identity aims of Xi Jinping and Abe Shintaro as well as those governing with them, a realist perspective would be misleading. The Senkaku/Diaoyu dispute is not driven, as some argue, by natural resources, and is much more than a clash over control of critical maritime routes, as many realists conclude. It is a test of two national identities in the process of being reshaped by leaders with far-reaching ambitions. "The Map of the World: Geopolitics Stages a Comeback" Sergei Karaganov vom Council on Foreign and Defense Policy stellt fest, dass sich geopolitische Theorien in der Politikwissenschaft nach Jahrzehnten der Vernachlässigung neuer Beliebtheit erfreuen. Ein wichtiger Grund sei die Rückkehr des Nationalismus in der internationalen Politik. "The comeback of geopolitics is also the result of the just-started re-nationalization of world politics. Reactionary dreams – including my favorite ones about a concert of great powers, and the liberals’ hopes for a global government that would run the world on the basis of a democratic mandate – have failed to come true. The fears of looming omnipotence of international corporations have proved utterly out-of-place, as well. They are still influential, those corporations and the related quarters, but they have to cede center stage to the nation states and nationally-oriented politicians. Speaking about the countries of Latin America and the potential to work together on global issues through institutions such as the G20, Assistant Secretary Jacobson said, 'These are actually partners, not just with us on issues of bilateral relevance or even regional relevance — they are global partners.' Ambassador Guignard emphasized the shared democratic values held by Europe, Latin America, and the United States as a critical component of this partnership. French Policy in Africa from Sarkozy to Hollande" Paul Melly und Vincent Darracq haben in ihrer Studie für den britischen Think-Tank Chatham House die französische Außenpolitik in Afrika analysiert. In einem der aufgezählten Punkte heißt es: "President Nicolas Sarkozy was self-confident and direct, but Hollande has shown a subtler ear for the tone of African diplomacy and how this can be used to productive effect. "The International 'Campaign to Stop Killer Robots': A misguided effort?" Ulrike Franke, Studentin an der University of Oxford, hält den Begriff der "Killer-Roboter", der von der kürzlich gestarteten Londoner "Campaign to Stop Killer Robots" gebraucht wird, für irreführend. Es gebe bisher keine Bestrebungen, vollautomatische Waffensysteme zu entwickeln, die völlig ohne menschliche Steuerung und Überwachung auskommen würden. Gegner von Kampfdrohnen sollten ihre Kampagnen deshalb besser auf die aktuelle und ebenso problematische Drohnengeneration konzentrieren, so Franke. "The real risk lies elsewhere though: the campaign might play into the hands of those governments wanting to acquire the equally contested, but actually existent non-autonomous armed UAVs. (...) With emotions running high what would be more convenient than supporting an initiative to ban worse, yet non-existent weapons? It should not come as a surprise if several (European) governments decided to back the initiative. This move would then allow them to prove and underline their good intentions – while buying armed UAVs in the meantime." Weiter...

Der Sozialwissenschaftler und Systemtheoretiker Immanuel Wallerstein untersucht die Rolle der sogenannten BRICS-Laender Brasilien, Russland, Indien, China und Suedafrika.
