Public Libraries as Centres for Civic Education in Europe: Recommendations for new Practices and Perspectives in the Polish Libraries

6.8.2009
The Participants were invited to present best practices in all the fields connected to informal civic education (culture, music, sport, politics, ecology; activities of the museums and galleries and last but not least schools and libraries). Now, the »IPA« in co-operation with »FRSI« will prepare a publication, that will include presented papers, ideas from the general debate as well as the conclusions and recommendations from the seminar. This publication will be discussed with a group of librarians in July 2010, who will review the suggestions and will adapt them to their practical opportunities and their vision of a library. The project will end in publishing a syllabus including the best ideas in the field of civic education. The publication will be presented at the librarians' congress, which is planned for November 2010.
All project presentations, the participant list, the description of the whole project as well as pictures of the expert seminar are available »here«.

Participation Now! Citizenship Education and Democracy in Times of Change
In the focus of the NECE Conference 2012 there are current concepts of democracy and participation in the face of worldwide processes of change as well as crises in politics, society and economy. The NECE Conference is supposed to pursue the question of what might be an appropriate reaction to these obvious and new questions and developments of crisis – not only in the West. The Conference provides an interdiciplinary platform for a dialogue among multiplicators of citizenship education and civil society in Europe on the one hand and "non-European" countries on the move on the other. Actors particularly from the North African region are invited to tell about their experiences and problems and to initiate a process of learning and exchanging.
