Germany
Germany is a nation of immigrants. More than 20 percent
of the population have a migration background. Despite a
long history of immigration, it took Germany until the beginning
of the new millennium to accept this reality. Since
then, immigration laws have been liberalized, at least for
qualified migrants. Since the extensive refugee immigration
in 2015, the topic of asylum is (again) at the center
of public attention and has led to opposing attitudes and
reactions among the country‘s population. (2017)
