Körber Foundation

Social development calls for critical reflection. The Körber Foundation takes on current social challenges with its operational projects, in its networks and with cooperation partners. At present, the focus of its work is on the five topics Dialogue with Asia, Dealing with History, STEM Promotion, Potentials of Old Age and Music Education. Fathered in 1959 by the entrepreneur and instigator Kurt A. Körber, the foundation is now active both nationally and internationally with its own projects and events from its locations in Hamburg and Berlin.

In the field of education, the Körber Foundation concerns itself with history and identity in Germany and Europe with the focus "Remembering for the future". With dialogue projects, competitions and future workshops it encourages people to recognise historical influences, to question affiliations and to shed light on divisive and connecting factors in history. The foundation's initiatives help them to develop their own positions and to become involved in current debates. It enables them to conduct dialogues with decision-makers and pioneers in politics and society and offers them opportunities to test themselves.

In Germany, for example, the Körber Foundation has been holding the Federal President's History Competition, in which children and adolescents research into their local history, for more than 40 years. In addition, the foundation has been coordinating history competitions for young people in 22 further European countries in the EUSTORY network since 2001. Young Europeans interested in history come together in the Young History Forum in seminars and Internet groups to discuss key issues of the past, present and future.
