The Maxim Gorki Theatre in the centre of Berlin will be hosting both HistoryCampus Berlin and the Open Campus of Europe 14|14.

The Maxim Gorki Theatre, located in the Choral Academy on the boulevard Unter den Linden, is the smallest and most beautiful of Berlin’s ensemble theatres and also a historically significant building. Founded in 1952 as a theatre for contemporary productions, it became a Stadttheater (municipal theatre) for the citizens of East Berlin in the very best sense – it was both critical and dissident.

Under the guidance of director Shermin Langhoff and Jens Hillje, the ensemble of the Gorki will address these kinds of transitional situations during the opening season 2013/14. For the Europe 14|14 Open Campus the Gorki is currently developing a range of interesting cultural productions which look into the reception of the First World War from a very remarkable perspective. The productions are developed in cooperation with established European artists. HistoryCampus participants will also be involved in some of the productions. Further information concerning the Open Campus will soon be provided Interner Link: here.

The Maxim Gorki Theatre forms the vital centre of the HistoryCampus Berlin. From 7 until 11 May 2014, all participants of the HistoryCampus Berlin will find the chance for activating euopean interchange and creative inspiration here.

A number of workshops and other activities of the HistoryCampus Berlin will take place at the Palais am Festungsgraben, which is directly connected to the Maxim Gorki Theatre.

Special thanks also go to the Robert Bosch Stiftung Berlin, the Collegium Hungaricum Berlin and the Zeughaus / Deutsches Historisches Museum for providing further premises for the activities of the HistoryCampus Berlin.
